One of Da Nang’s most recognizable landmarks, the Dragon Carp Statue (Cá Chép Hóa Rồng) has become a favorite photo stop for both locals and international visitors. Standing 7.5 meters tall and weighing approximately 200 tons, this impressive marble sculpture overlooks the Han River, representing prosperity, determination, and good fortune in Vietnamese culture.
Carved from five massive blocks of natural white marble sourced from the famous Non Nước Marble Village, the statue was created by more than 30 master craftsmen over a period of three months. Every detail, from the dragon’s majestic head to the carp’s powerful scales, showcases the exceptional stone-carving skills that Da Nang has been famous for for centuries.

The statue is inspired by the ancient Vietnamese legend of the carp transforming into a dragon after successfully swimming upstream and leaping over the legendary Dragon Gate. The story symbolizes perseverance, ambition, and the reward that comes from overcoming challenges.
The dragon’s head is modeled after the elegant dragon design of the Lý Dynasty (1009–1225), a period considered one of Vietnam’s golden ages. Unlike the fierce dragons often seen in East Asian art, the Lý dragon has a graceful, flowing appearance that represents wisdom, peace, and prosperity.
For many Vietnamese people, the Dragon Carp is more than a beautiful sculpture – it serves as a reminder that determination and hard work can lead to success.

The Dragon Carp Statue occupies one of the most scenic locations in Da Nang. It stands on the eastern bank of the Han River, between two of the city’s most famous landmarks:
It also sits directly beside the romantic Love Lock Bridge and the lively DHC Marina, making this area one of the most visited waterfront promenades in the city.
From here, visitors can enjoy panoramic views across the river toward Da Nang’s modern skyline, watch sightseeing cruises pass by, or simply relax while enjoying the fresh river breeze.

Whether you’re visiting during the day or at night, the Dragon Carp Statue offers countless photography opportunities.
During sunrise, soft golden light reflects beautifully off the white marble while the riverside remains peaceful with local joggers and cyclists.
At sunset, the Han River glows in warm colors, creating one of the most picturesque backdrops in Da Nang.
After dark, the surrounding bridges illuminate with colorful LED lights, transforming the waterfront into one of the city’s liveliest evening destinations.
The statue is especially popular on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, when visitors often combine their visit with the spectacular Dragon Bridge Fire and Water Show.
Dragon Carp together with Love Bridge creates an ideal place for sightseeing and walking in Da Nang, best time to visit in early morning and evening.
